As a Yukon and Halifax-based artist, Melissa uses her surrounding environment and community as a primary influence in her work. With her unique heritage of Swiss roots with a Canadian upbringing, her work explores and expresses the idea of identity, interpersonal relationships, and the meaning of home.
Melissa is most recently a graduate of the Yukon School of Visual Arts and a candidate of a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Photography at NSCAD University. She is also a freelance photographer, who has experience in both commercial and fine art environments.
"Melissa's photos are full of care for the place she grew up, and her work captures what life is like up here far beyond, and far more tenderly, than the vast expanses of wilderness we are known for." - Aubyn O’Grady, Program Director at the Yukon School of Visual Arts.
